What are the best social networks?
There are so many to choose from.
What is a social network?
Any website that allows one to post a profile, picture and bio, and allows it's users to connect or network with others is a social network. These can be used for fun, finding a job/employee, or people with similar interests.
The most popular sites:
Facebook- The best known of the social networks. The Movie "Social Network" was all about Facebook! PROS- Almost everyone is on it and is easy to find. Also there are many groups and fan clubs to join for free. CONS- Every time you post something on a friend's wall, you get emailed every time someone else posts.
MyYearbook- A fun site with over members. This gives you the most variety of profile backgrounds. PROS- You can post "stickers" on other people's profiles. Stickers are a cartoon, movie or photo, that usually has a funny message on it. You can also "battle" your friends to win more "lunch money" to be used on this network. CONS- It tends to draw a lot of scammers and you need to be careful on this one. I just block and report them, and move on.
Tagged- Widely used by mostly singles, around the world. Put up your favorite songs for your friends to listen to.PROS- If you are looking for singles you will find them here.CONS- If you are not looking for singles, there will find YOU here. LOL. Many are a bit inappropriate compared to others social networks. There are a lot of "spambots" on here too, plus it seems to run slow a lot.
My Space-Very popular among youngsters. PROS- Well, I am not a fan of this one, but you can follow bands and make friends I suppose. CONS- It seems that more questionable activities take place on this site than many of the others I have mentioned. That is not a deterrent, one just needs to be aware.
Twitter- This one has grown quickly, and draws people for many reasons and from many different backgrounds. PROS- It is a great place to get news and updates on sports, music, events, and so on.A lot of celebs. "tweet" often, which makes this special, because you do not have to be their "friend" to read their "tweets". CONS- It isn't really set up for one on one contact and the groups are limited, as well.
Politics for All-Meet a variety of Candidates, running for office anywhere in America.PROS- You can start polls, campaigns and also ask candidates questions. CONS- If you are not a big political junkie, it can be boring.
The Best for What You are Looking for-
If you are looking for work or to promote a product of any type, I rate FACEBOOK (FB) as number 1,Twitter number 2.
If you are looking to meet fellow professionals in your are, I rateLINKED IN as number 1 and FB as number 2.
If you are looking for a date or an activity partner, I rank TAGGED as number 1 and MYYEARBOOK as number 2.
If you are looking to just have fun with others online and you are competitive, I rank MYYEARBOOK as number 1 and Facebook as number 2.My Yearbook is fun and you can learn how to do more things on line by playing around with it.
To find others of your faith or those will similar interests, I rate FB as number 1.
Other Social Networks that are not as well known-
TBD- I did not have a good experience with this one. I found it to be a bit "stuffy" and not as much fun. Just my opinion though.
LINKED IN- I like this one. You can find fellow professionals right in your own neighborhood.
Friendster- This is a gaming network rather than a social one in my opinion. But if gaming is your thing, jump in to friendster!

Thank you drbj! Now everyone else, tell me your what your favorite is!
I've been on FB for a bit and got reconnected to many even from high school and have been able to develop some good contacts. Like real life in the brick and mortar world, how you behave and conduct yourself is a direct indicator of how others may come to respect or avoid you.
In the very near future, Unchained Grace along with others will be opening a new organization and sumarrily promoting others so their target marketing ads will serve well here. I've not tried the others, but ultimately, FB provides to me an unprecedented opportunity if you work it right.
Thanks for the breakdown and nice Hub.
I seem to be probably the only person I know who is not well clued up on social networks, or even a member on them. I recently joined Twitter, though & thanks to this hub for simplifying them all, I might just finally join Facebook!
Well done, Mike. Apparently it's possible to block those emails you mentioned in your 'con' column for Facebook. I never receive them and I've been on FB for some time.
Not sure how I blocked them, however!
Great run down of the major social networks. I'm a member of a ton to help promote my hubs, and they all kind of blur together at this point! Great hub :0)
Great hub. Thanks. I recently joined Twitter. @RhondaWaits.
Not sure it has helped my hubs. Yet.
Cool...I use facebook and linked in. I used to be on myspace a lot. It's good if you want to keep a blog, and lets you dress up the look and feel of your pages... so if you like designing things it's a plus as well.
I use Twitter and facebook and they are both user friendly.
Great synopsis of them all. Twit is a great place to advertise, this is one thing you neglected to mention. Good writing. Also good info.
Uh not really. I didn't neglect to mention anything actually. You just misunderstood the point and title of the hub. I understand that you have an internet business and YOU advertise on twitter, and are upset that I didn't plug a business that I have never heard of. You could have asked me to.LOL I wouldn't even ask you to say pretty please.
LOL Not!! Maybe I missed in your writing the fact that twitter is a great ad too as you did an excellent job of describing the social networks. This was just a thing about twit that I know to be true. I actually have a lot of praise for what you wrote and I actually have nothing to do by commenting here except tell you it is a good synopsis!! But give a plug for twitter so people will know to advertise there.
When you finish writing a hub, you should notice the facebook and twitter buttons come up. In clicking either of them it will immediately advertise your hub in either or both networks. And in advertising your hubs, you get more views, ant this is how you make money here. Hubpages is it's own biz, never mind any of the rest of what people have goin on!! Advertise your hubs!! Use those social networks!! Sorry, Advertising IS my business!! HAVE A TOTALLY WONDERFUL DAY!!!
Well. Really? LOL
No one ever could of guessed that advertising was your line. NOT!
Since I have 10,000 reads, 2,000 for just one of my hubs, I do know how to advertise my hubs. That was not the point of this hub. Read it and the title again please.
I do advertise mine which is why I was nominated for best new hubber of 2010. ALSO you can click on MySpace, Stumble, and others at the bottom of one's hub.
Thank you for your input and good wishes!
well done Hub and great info. I think I'm going to think like a youngster and put something on MySpace that they can't resist. A real challenge, and it could be an exercise in fiction writing!

Thanks, Mike, for the updated Social Network info. FB and Twitter are my two faves.
