This Veterans Day. How to thank our brave heroes.

The unknown sacrifice!

This year on Veterans' Day, remember and thank those that defend our Freedoms, and our way of life. The sacrifice that our vets make is too often taken for granted, and forgotten!

What do they sacrifice for us?

Whether or not we Americans are able to fully comprehend what a strong military does for our benefit, we should be able to appreciate what a soldier goes through every day. While in combat, they know that that there is a good chance that either they themselves or the soldier next to them will be "hit" that day! They may watch a friend die, lose a limb, or get captured by an enemy that hates them just for being an American! Because they are a citizen of the greatest country on earth, they are loathed, and wanted dead!

Those not in combat know they may soon be! will they ever see their children, spouses, parents, or even their pets again? They do not know! While we enjoy the latest movie, ballgame, or wii game, they put their life on the line, or suffer in an institution from a war caused affliction. This season, put yourself in the shoes of our brave men and women. Ask yourself if it is too much too right a vet, or thank one, or to take your children to a V.A. hospital this winter an visit some of our best.

Instead of apologizing to other countries for America's past, why don't the politicians apologize to some of our Vets for how they were treated when they came home.

As a man that was recruited by the U.S.M.C. in '89, I will tell you that a simple act of gratitude goes further than you think! Semper Fi, God bless, and Happy Veterans Day!

How can we thank our American Soldiers?

There are a few simple ways:

1. Contribute of volunteer at your local American Legion, V.A. Hospital, or similar organization.

2. Stop and thank every Vet. that you see in the public. The current ones are easy to find!

3. Write a letter to the editor!

Very good hub and a reminder to those who have never had friends or relatives in the military just what is at stake. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks to all the many soldiers who are currently in the service as well as our retired veterans. This gets an up vote for sure!

Hi Mike,

you were recruited by the Marines I see. Did they get you and if so, wher did you serve? Just curious. My last mission before I was a Christian wss in Somalia, Africa. My Profile gives alittle history on me. I met my wife in Tokyo, Japan. She is from New York. My father was a veteran of the WWII.

I have to admit, I really appreciate what the Food Establishments do by feeding the Vets on Vets Day. it's a chance for family to get together and talk as well as bumping into a vet you haven't seen in 20 years or more. Needless to say, I always think of those that lost their lives and didn't come back home with me from my platoon.

Nice reflecting ...

Well, since we are a community here, I will elaborate just this once. I had a serious health issue that prevented me from completing boot camp. This has since been taken care of and I am fine now. I wish I was able to serve. Now I help with U.S. Veteran causes as a citizen instead.

Nice hub Mike. Everyone should be proud of our Veterans and our country! My husband is a vet and shakes the hand of every man and woman in uniform he comes across. Great idea. You can watch the smile on their face as you shake their hand and say thank you. They do appreciate it. Glad your health issue was taken care of. God Bless.
